Blog

Looking out into the clear water of your swimming pool sounds like summer, but looking out into your green, algae-filled pool doesn't at all. Your pool should be taken care of properly in order to remain clean and clear. If you aren't taking good care of your pool, you're going to end up with that algae-filled pool. Algae will eat through a swimming pool liner in no time at all and could leave you needing a major pool repair. Read on for tips to care for your pool to keep it clear.

Use A Water Testing Kit

You can't just look at your water to see that chemicals need to be added. If you already notice a change in your water, you could end up needing a bit more than the usual chemicals to get your pool water clear. Using a water testing kit is the best way to check if your water is imbalanced and needs chemicals. Use a water testing kit to test your water at least once per week.

Add Chemicals

Your pool water needs chemicals in order to keep it balanced and clean enough for you and your family to swim in. If your water isn't safe to swim in, it could make you sick and irritate your skin. You could be left with a rash, redness, or other skin irritation. Once you've tested your pool water, you will know what chemicals need to be added to your pool. If you aren't sure what to add, you can take a sample of the water to your swimming pool supply store to be tested. They should be able to tell you what chemicals need to be added.

Vacuum Debris

A vacuum will need to be used in order to get up any debris that has fallen to the pool floor. Anything that has fallen into your pool that doesn't get sucked up in the skimmer will eventually fall to the pool floor. If you don't vacuum the pool floor, you could end up with stains or algae build-up. Vacuum the pool floor at least once per week or more often if you have a lot of debris in your pool.

Check The Skimmer Basket

The skimmer basket is often going to fill up with the floating debris. When this fills up, the water isn't going to be able to get to the pump and filter, which could cause a problem with these components of your pool. They aren't going to be able to keep up with cleaning your pool properly. Check and empty the skimmer basket every other day.

If you have a pool, you need to keep it clean and clear or you may end up with an algae problem. Use the tips above to help you do this on your own, or you can hire a professional company to do this work for you.
